Egg Freezing
Success Stories

I never saw myself as doing any medical procedure by choice as I have been afraid of needles since early childhood. Though I can tough it out with the best of them and stick my arm out for my annual flu-shot, I pretty much avoid shots at all costs. That is until I found myself 35, single, and rethinking my decision I believed I had long ago put to rest, that I was not interested in having kids.

I started to do some research on the subject of egg freezing – which was an easy project as the subject was on covers everywhere (and not just women’s magazines). The Washington Post to the Huff Post headlined stories about the new frontier-for-women. Finally, a way of running an end game around that screaming biological clock – a chance to preserve your fertility.

It’s funny because as someone who wasn’t planning on having kids, that biological clock played no part in my life, which, up until this point, included a very fulfilling career in the not-for-profit arena and an 8-year marriage that ended pretty amicably.

In my research, I found IRMS – which was not only close to home for me but I really liked the all-female physician part of their practice.

I met with my doctor in the Hoboken office and decided to embark on a journey that was so unexpected for me in many ways. I knew I would need to take some close friends into my confidence, because after meeting with my doctor and seeing the online video I knew daily injections were what I was in for. I knew I needed some support and back-up for the shot part and ultimately found so much more than that. By sharing this decision with my Mom and my closest friend from my first job out of college, I found a supportive place I did not expect to find. I decided I was doing one course of egg freezing or “cycle”, regardless of the number of eggs I was able to freeze. I feel fortunate in that I was able to freeze 9 eggs.

That was 2 year’s ago, and my life has changed still further. I am in a committed relationship but not yet ready to add kids to the mix. I look back over the past two years and know that I gained freedom and strength along my journey to freeze my eggs. I don’t know if I will need them. I think in my relationship we may try on our own first and see where that leads but I am thankful for the people in my life that helped me through this process, and I am happy with myself for choosing to not regret.
