Fertility Treatments Costs – Maximize your Healthcare Benefits and use your FSA Plans
It is that time of year again when we are presented with ever-changing healthcare packages from our employers.
Though the insurance carriers may change and the plans have different levels of deductible or co-insurance, if you are planning on pursuing fertility treatment in 2016 in New Jersey, here are a few key things to think about when choosing a plan:
- Does your plan cover infertility treatment?
- Do they have caps such as a lifetime maximum dollar amount they will cover?
- Do you need to do a minimum # of IUI cycles prior to accessing IVF coverage?
- Are your medications covered separately or are they considered part of that lifetime max coverage?
Many of these questions can be addressed to your HR person, but don’t be surprised if you need to request a call be arranged with a Representative from the insurance carrier themselves to get some of these specific answers. Don’t be afraid to ask your HR person to arrange such a call. These are your benefits. Also maximize your “Flexible Spending Account” option to pay yourself back in pre-tax dollars for medical expenditures NOT covered by your insurance plan. The Federal government has determined that the contribution amount for the 2016 year is the same as this year at $2,550.

Hi,
I’m in the process to renew my health insurance on exchange. Currently, I have Health insurance republic of NJ Core Silver access plan and I’m planning to renew the same plan but I don’t know what infertility coverage this plan is offering. I can only see the Infertility treatment (Limited coverage) option in the summary of benefits. Would you please guide me and recommend me what would be the best Silver plans for the infertility treatment which covers most of the cost and treatments?
